 1997 sollte das bereits auf dem 3DO und der PlayStation veröffentlichte Actionspiel Return Fire™ nun auch endlich auf dem Saturn aufschlagen.
Allerdings gab es einige Probleme mit der japanischen Version des Games, dazu der Kommentar des Entwicklers Prolific:
"The game was finished for the Sega Saturn.
At about that time, Hitachi made a Saturn system that was not 100% compatible with Sega's, and the game did not run correctly on it.
We were asked to make the changes which would allow it to run on the "HI-Saturn," and after a bit of back-and-forth, we even received a loaner HI-Saturn test system. But, did not do this work because the project was stopped because the publisher did not believe the Saturn was going to make it. The Saturn version of Return Fire was therefore never manufactured on "protected" CDs and therefore never released."
Anfang 2003 forschte ich im Internet nach Spielen, wo nicht klar war, ob sie jemals für den Saturn released wurden oder nicht.
Unter anderem stieß ich dabei auf Return Fire™, wo es einige User gab, die behaupteten, sie hätten das Game schon mal auf Saturn gespielt.
Andere wiederum waren fest davon überzeugt, dass es das Game nie bis zur Produktionsreife geschafft hatte.
Um eine möglichst perfekte Softwareliste auf meiner Seite präsentieren zu können, kontaktierte ich also den Entwickler Prolific, der mir schon einmal mit obigem Statement bestätigen konnte, dass es nie eine Verkaufsversion des Games für den Saturn auf den Markt geschafft hat.
Nach etlichen weiteren Mails hatte ich sie soweit, mir eine Kopie aus ihrem Keller zuzusenden.
Zuerst lief das Spiel nicht auf dem Saturn, doch mit Hilfe eines Freundes (printf) gelang es uns, das Game zum Laufen zu bringen.
Leider wurden anfängliche Träume, das Spiel in einer richtigen Verpackung mit richtigem Cover, Anleitung, etc. zu produzieren und zum Selbstkostenpreis anzubieten zunichte gemacht, da der Entwickler Prolific sich seit der ersten Kontaktaufnahme bis heute nicht dazu durchringen konnte, mir eine Genehmigung für eine real produzierte Version für ein über 10 Jahre altes Spiel zu geben.
Nachdem ich in den letzten Jahren dauerhaft und leider vergeblich versucht habe (u.a. mit einer Petition), Prolific davon zu überzeugen, mir doch eine Genehmigung zu übergeben, damit das Spiel endlich von den Fans auf ihrem Lieblingssystem in einer professionellen Verpackung gespielt werden kann, sehe ich nun, über 10 Jahre nach dem geplanten Release keinerlei Grund mehr, es nicht zumindest als Download anzubieten.

In the beginning of 2003 i did a reasearch on unreleased Saturn games.
Amongst others i found this game uncleared if it was released or not. Some said they have played it on their Saturn, some said this is impossible.
To get a nearly perfect software list for my site i started to contact the producer Prolific, who proofed me, that the game was never released for the SEGA Saturn, as the statement above shows.
After many more emails they sent me a copy from their cellar.
First the game was not running, but with the help of a friend called printf it worked finally.
First i dreamed of a real game with real packaging, professionally printed covers, manual, etc. at cost price, but i´m still waiting for a permission by Prolific for that real and professionally produced version.
And to this day they are not finished. I tried it many times (amongst others with a Petition), but now i think it´s time to give this more than 10year old game to the fans for their loving system as download at least.

Pero hubo problemas con la versión japonesa del juego, tal y como indica la compañía productora, Prolific:
"El juego fue terminado para Sega Saturn.
Pero por aquel entonces, Hitachi fabricó una gama de Saturn que no era 100% compatible con la Saturn estandar de Sega, y el juego no funcionaba bien en ella.
Nos pidieron que hiciéramos los cambios necesarios para que el juego funcionase en la "HI-Saturn". Tras algunos reajustes, incluso recibimos un modelo de Hi-Saturn para pruebas. Pero al final el trabajo no pudo llevarse a cabo porque el proyecto fue definitivamente cancelado, ya que la editora/distribuidora ya no tenía fe en la Saturn. La version de Saturn de Return Fire nunca se llegó a manufacturar en discos licenciados, y por lo tanto, jamás fue comercializada."
A comienzos de 2003, el webmaster de sega-saturn.net realizó una investigación acerca de juegos de Saturn que nunca fueron lanzados.
Entre otros, encontró este juego, pero no estaba muy claro si llegó a ser comercializado o no. Algunos proclamaban haberlo llegado a jugar en su Saturn, pero otros alegaban que era imposible.
Para poder tener una lista lo más perfecta posible de juegos de la consola para la web, se contactó con la productora del juego, Prolific, cuya respuesta fue que el juego nunca se llegó a lanzar para SEGA Saturn, tal y como se indica en el párrafo superior.
Después de muchos correos electrónicos, se les pudo convencer de que enviaran una copia que tenían en sus oficinas.
Al principio el juego no iba, pero con la ayuda de un amigo apodado "printf", se pudo lograr que funcionase.
La intención era de que se convirtiese en un juego comercial real, con una funda estándar, una portada impresa de manera profesional, un manual, etc, todo al menor precio posible, pero había que esperar un permiso oficial por parte de Prolific, ya que los que llevan por allí las cuestiones legales son bastante lentos.
A día de hoy, todavía no se había podido conseguir. Se ha intentado muchas veces (entre otras con una Petición), pero ya iba siendo hora de otorgar este juego de hace una década a aquellos jugadores que tanto aprecio le tienen a este sistema. | | |
